Dinner Program: Standard 189.1 and Green Code Adoption

This presentation will be an overview of the development of ASHRAE’s green building Standard 189.1, including discussions of the six objectives in the Standard and how 189.1 compliments green building rating programs.  Also, we will review the recent agreement between ASHRAE, USGBC, ICC and other groups to include Standard 189.1 as an alternative compliance path in the International Green Construction Code and issues surrounding adoption of green codes at the federal, state and local levels.

Ron Burton, BOMA International

Mr. Ron Burton joined the BOMA staff in 2001 and leads a team of staff professionals responsible for BOMA’s building codes, standards & regulatory issue advocacy at the national level.  BOMA’s Codes, Standards & Regulatory Affairs Group is also responsible for assisting Local BOMA Affiliates and State Coalitions with their efforts in these arenas.  

Prior to joining the BOMA staff, Burton served as Senior Staff Vice President for Construction, Codes & Standards at the National Association of Home Builders.  He has extensive experience in association management with an emphasis on issue advocacy, federal legislative and regulatory programs, state and local support, and the development of codes and standards.  Burton has broad experience in the construction and real estate industries, serving as an architectural/technical specialist for a major national window and door manufacturer and also as President of a custom home building firm in Austin, Texas specializing in large custom homes and multifamily projects with an emphasis on innovative and energy efficient construction.  Mr. Burton is a native Texan who now resides in the Washington, DC area.
