HVAC Engineer with Smartgrid Startup

We are looking for an engineer with expertise in HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems/Energy Management Systems to join our team. Work is part-time, hours are very flexible, and compensation will be primarily equity in the company, with cash negotiable. If interested in working on the side to bring a truly first-of-a-kind intelligent electricity demand management service through pilot stage and then to market, send resume to email listed below.

Company Description

Enertaq is an innovative smartgrid startup from University of Maryland that has placed in several prestigious national business plan competitions for graduate students and professionals, recently winning $15,000 as a category winner at the MIT Clean Energy Prize. We have secured agreements for pilot projects with two major international companies – a big box retailer and an energy management system vendor.

Enertaq has developed software that interfaces with Energy Management Systems in commercial buildings and makes slight adjustments to the timing of when certain air conditioning systems and heating elements cycle on and off, generally by 5-75 seconds at a time. These adjustments are made dynamically in response to whether the wholesale electricity grid is a bit oversupplied or a bit undersupplied any given moment.

Like “Demand Response” companies such as EnerNOC, Comverge, and CPower, Enertaq aggregates commercial buildings and adjusts the timing of their electricity consumption to improve electricity grid reliability. However, commercial buildings that contract with Enertaq are enrolled in a much more valuable grid-reliability service, and so can earn up to five times as much enrolling with us as they can from traditional "Demand Response" companies. Enertaq will install its service for free and split the revenue from regional grid operators with its enrolled commercial buildings.

Enertaq has developed an optimized dispatch algorithm which maximizes flexibility to the grid while respecting various constraints to ensure that there is no adverse effect on mechanical systems or occupant comfort. By helping to continuously correct imbalances between supply and demand on the electricity grid, even faster than “real-time” spot prices change, Enertaq helps integrate significantly more intermittent renewable generation onto the grid.
