April's President's Corner

Our March 11th meeting began with the introduction of this year's Charles Kannapell Student Scholarship awards. The following students received awards:

  • Edvin Cetegen - University of Maryland
  • William Congleton - Northern Virginia Community College
  • Magnus Eisele - University of Maryland
  • Timothy Phillips - Northern Virginia Community College

Thanks to all of our NCC members who have continued to contribute towards these scholarships.

I would also like to thank our speakers for the evening, Ameya Soparkar and Oliver Baumann. Ameya's PES presentation on Psychrometrics was well received. Mr. Baumann's presentation also received many complements as he discussed his experience with CFD modeling in this country and abroad.

The last PES and Dinner meeting of the season will be on April 8th. The PES topic will be "Steam Systems" and the Dinner topic will be "Engineering Ethics".

And during our April 8th meeting, we will also hear from NCC's Research Promotion Chair, Dave Cooper as he describes the importance of ASHRAE-Research and how all of us benefit from the donations and the work that comes about from these donations. Year after year, our Chapter has been recognized for the continued support of ASHRAE Research because of the dedication our members have shown to this Society of Engineers. Thank you!

And just a reminder we will also be opening registration for the May tour of Sidwell Friends Middle School a few days after the April 8th meeting. The space is limited, so please register early if you want to attend.

And believe it or not, we still have openings for the May 8th NCC golf tournament. If you have not registered and would like to play please click on this link for details:
