May President's Corner

If you missed our April dinner meeting we focused on the importance of supporting research in ASHRAE. ASHRAE research improves the way HVAC&R systems work and the way in which they are applied. Our support of research allows development of technical information to create standards and guidelines that serve as the basis for testing and design practices around the world. The evening was highlighted by the recognition of a research contribution from the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute. The presentation of the contribution was made by Mark Menzer, AHRI Executive Vice President and Steve Szymurski, AHRI Director of Research. AHRI's contribution to the ASHRAE Research Promotion Fund is recognized through research co-funding from AHRI's research arm, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Institute (ARTI). NCC ASHRAE Research Promotions Chair, Stephanie Mages, recognized the contribution on behalf of the chapter.

In May we take a welcome break from our routine with two special events. On Friday, May 16th we hold our Annual Golf Outing. This year's event will be held at Blue Mash Golf Club in Laytonsville, MD. Please see our website www.NCCASHRAE.org for additional information. On May 21st we will gather with our friends from the Baltimore ASHRAE Chapter for a night at the new Washington Nationals baseball stadium, Nationals Park. Discounted tickets and reserved seating are available on a first come, first served basis. To order tickets just print the form posted on our website, www.NCCASHRAE.org. As we near the completion of our 2007-2008 society year schedule, I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as chapter president this year. I am grateful for the experience and it has been an honor for me to lead the chapter. I am especially grateful for the all of the support of our hard working chapter officers, committee chairs and committee members who have volunteered their time to help make this a very successful year. I encourage others to take advantage of opportunities to support our chapter and society.

Frank Kannapell
NCC Chapter President
