December President's Corner

On November the 12th, The National Capital Chapter was invited to the 9th annual Joint Trade Show with The Mechanical Contractors Association of Metro Washington. There were 24 contractors and vendors in attendance and displayed the latest technologies in our industry. Everything from boiler systems to building automation systems, were well represented. And those that attended were given the chance to discuss applications with experts representing their products.

We cannot thank enough, The Mechanical Contractors Association of Metro Washington their continued support of our Chapter, and our commitment to our members to provide these types of events to educate, inform and develop as engineers.

The December meeting we will be back at Tivoli with two topics that received a number of requests by members to cover. The PES will cover Hospital Design and the Dinner program's presentation will be on Renewable Energy Technologies.
Mr. Rick Swink of PEPCO Holdings will present the various types of fuel cells currently being developed.

During our December Dinner meeting we will also have the privilege of honoring the past NCC Presidents. When you begin to look at the names of the past NCC Presidents that began in 1959 with James Nolan Jr, you begin to understand why our Chapter has been so successful. Many of our past Presidents have gone on to support ASHRAE at the Society level, but have always remained a source for current Presidents to bounce ideas off of. I can attest to this fact, since you will always find me during one our Chapter meetings, huddled off to the side with any past President that will give me a few minutes of their guidance.

Of course my main source of direction is requested from Frank Kannapell, our 2007-2008 President. Our Chapter has benefitted greatly through his leadership, and all of us who served under him would agree, that our continued support was strengthened during his tenure.

We invite all past Presidents of NCC to join us for our December meeting to honor your past work and continued support of our Chapter. I would also hope that our attendance by our members will convey the gratitude we all have for these members who decided invest their time and energy to lead our Chapter year after year.

Best Regards,
Jim Grant
NCC President 2008-2009
