2009 was a challenging year for all of us. I hope everyone had a chance to spend some time with their families over the holiday season. In the name of the Board of Governors of the National Capital Chapter I wish you all a healthy, safe and prosperous year in 2010.

Our Chapter closed of 2009 with a very well attended chapter meeting on December 9th. That night we honored all of our past NCC ASHRAE Presidents and we were pleased to see nine of past Presidents join us and share their experience and ideas with the current Chapter officials. We thank them all for their continued support. Their commitment and leadership made the National Capital Chapter one of the most successful and prospering chapters in the Society.

The Chapter celebrated the Holiday Season and the New Year at our 4th annual Winter Party in the Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria, VA on January 9th, 2010. The Winter Party Committee organized a fun and festive event.

Engineers Week is coming up soon, it is on the week of February 14-20. The Discover Engineering Family Day is scheduled for February 20, 2010, at the National Building Museum. After a full day of hands-on activities and amazing demonstrations, kids and their parents will come away with a new appreciation of engineers and the wonders of engineering. NCC ASHRAE will have a booth as every year and we are looking for volunteers. Pete Collat has organized visits to DC elementary schools during National Engineers Week. Thank you all who volunteered to support this worthy event

Please remember that the ASHRAE Technology Awards program application deadline is in March, and now it is time to think of potential projects for submission. The program provides an opportunity to recognize ASHRAE members who design and/or conceive innovative technological concepts; communicate innovative systems designs to other ASHRAE members.

February Meeting
Our next Chapter meeting will be on February 10th at the Arlington Hilton and will be a joint meeting with USGBC NCR. The theme of the February meeting is Sustainability.

The PES program will cover Design of Commercial Ground Source Heat Pumps and the Dinner Program will be a presentation on Integrated Form of Agreement (IFOA) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).

Please remember to pre-register online for these programs before February 5th.

Best regards,
Kinga Porst
NCC President – 2009-2010
